Prevent Watch was setup in response to the Counter Terrorism and Security Act which placed the Prevent duty on a legal footing. It recognised the need to create a public record of the impact of Prevent on communities in order to hold the government to account for human rights violations that occur during its implementation.
The organisation has supported hundreds of cases to date and are exclusively focused on supporting people impacted by Prevent. Their team of caseworkers alongside a network of volunteers, academics, lawyers and journalists provide: a telephone helpline; casework; legal support; research and publications and; media work.
The Trust has awarded Prevent Watch a grant towards its core costs, so that they are able to provide vital support to those impacted by this legislation.
